Judge Salutes 10yr old Lauren James of Wick YFC at County Finals

Thespianism took the YFC movement by storm last weekend at the County Entertainment Finals at Porthcawl Pavilion with an incredible array of talent on display from all 7 clubs with Maendy YFC taking the top accolade.

We were absolutely delighted our very own Lauren James (10) won the “Most Promising U14 Female Artist” gaining much deserved praise from the judge who acknowledged Lauren’s all round ability singing, dancing and acting.  He was particularly impressed with her stage presence and her ability to captivate the entire audience at such a young age.  Having previously caught another judge’s eye at the last Public Speaking Day as Chairperson of the Brainstrust Team, Lauren certainly is a star in the making and an absolute asset to Wick YFC.  A keen gymnast Lauren began Stage Coach at 4 years old, joining Revolutionise Dance at 8 doing Acro & Lyrical dance under the superb tutelage of Holly Molino.  Lauren absolutely eats, sleeps and dreams dance, constantly amazing us all with her acts as a contortionist.  She has already represented Revolutionise in both Blackpool and Kent and will shortly embark as part of the team representing Wales at the Dance World Cup in Portugal in July.  May we wish Lauren and the team the very best of luck at this prestigious, world class event.

Our play this year “When Dreams Come True” written and directed by Charlotte Thomas centred around Lily, a little girl desperate to follow her dreams into dance and who better to take the lead role.  Supported by our budding juniors Hollie (13) & Rhianna Jones (11) and Lucy (15) & Bel Roberts(11), with both Lauren and Hollie choreographing the dance routines demonstrating enormous flair and panache at such young ages.  Rhianna another talented gymnast supported Lauren throughout the play and performed an absolutely perfect piano solo which greatly impressed the audience.  Lily required the blessing of her late grandmother played by our Vice Chair Tori Powell in order for her mum to allow her to follow her dreams.  To achieve this Lily had to wait patiently and with much anticipation for the next blood moon in the hope of seeing her grandmother and gaining her consent.  Support came from the thoroughly adept chorus of Del Davies, Catrin Long, Lucy, Bel, Luke Holmes & Luke Morgan with Aunt T delightfully played by Natalie Evans.

Our Chairman Alex Edwards played Lauren’s supportive dad with great charisma and magnetism much to the judge’s delight and amusement particularly during his song & dance routine to Tom Jones’ “Love is Like Candy” which Alex performed for his officious wife played by Rose Lubin.  We hadn’t seen this side of our chairman before and we have to say we loved it, gaining rapturous applause from the audience.  This is Alex’s 1st time as Chairman of Wick YFC; he’s done a fabulous job so far supporting & guiding the junior members, making Wick a fun and revitalising  club to be part of.

As a club, we had an absolute ball taking part at this event and wish Maendy YFC enormous luck going forward to the Wales finals.  Thank you to all the parents who gave their time so generously supporting our performance and to Sally Holmes yet again for her incredible costumes, Pam Morgans for her awe-inspiring art-work, Paddy Sheppard for the music, Rhodri Davies for lighting & technical, Del for make-up and Tom, Lloyd & Evan backstage.
